Summary of Poem 'IF' by Rudyard Kipling 

The poem ‘If’ has been composed by the British poet and a champion of imperialism, Rudyard Kipling. In the poem, the poet has called upon us for an active ‘honest’, sincere and liberal life.


He thinks that man is the maker of his own fortune. To dream big is not bad but it must be realized with sincere efforts and ceaseless hard labour. 

We should be patient and calm in face of both triumphs and defeats. Failure is the pillars of success. Labour never goes in vain. Truth ultimately triumphs over falsehood. No one should be discriminated against in the name of the nature of colour, caste and religion.

We should be kind to everyone and have no malice against anyone. It is a man of character with a liberal heart who is crowned with success in life.
